This evening I went and saw the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice musical Jesus Christ Superstar and had a blast. The show was very good with some excellent vocals. In fact the guy playing JC would have given Axl Rose (at his GnR peak ) a severe beat down in terms of screeching ability. And the actor playing Judas (former Living Colour front man Corey Glover)rocked the main anthem in a stylish white trenchcoat adorned with sequins.
So maybe I'm slightly biast since I grew up (thanks to my parents) listening to this music, along with songs from Hair, Cats, Phantom of the Opera, and others. But regardless that doesn't take away from the quality of the show.
The best part of all this is that the show was essentially held accross the street from where I work in the new Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center. So I didn't have to pay anything for parking. Two other great things that came from going to the show is that I learner about Atlantix and the upcoming schedule at the Cobb Center.
Atlantix, I learner, is a stand at Lennox mall that sells theatre and concert tickets on the day of the show for only half price!!!! That means I'll be going to a heck of a lot more shows in 2008. Even better than that is that I learned that the Swell Season will be playing the Cobb Center on May 13th. For those of you out of the loop the Swell Season is an Irish act with Glenn Hansard and Marketa Irglova who were the protagonists in the movie Once and who won the Oscar for best original song. All I can say is that whenever I hear that song I get shivers all over. There are only a few other songs that make me do that.
