Today, the Wall Street Journal has an article about a few big name multi-national corporations who are joining together to create what they call a "Supply Chain Leadership Coalition". The coalition will be created to request that suppliers track and release data on carbon emissions and other environmentally affecting practices. Some of the companies in the coalition are: Nestle, Procter&Gamble, Tesco, Unilever, and Cadbury Schweppes.
This reminds me of the quality audits we had to go through when I worked for Cadbury Schweppes. In those instances it was a case of Cadbury (as the supplier) being audited by McDonald's because Cadbury supplied mini-Flake bars for McD's to put in their ice-cream.
These kind of activities remind me of the power and influence these large corporations exert. It demonstrates that if they choose to, they can literally force other companies to do things their way. For better or for worse.
