Last Sunday a friend of mine here in Atlanta passed away, Will C.
I met Will summer of '05 while on my first frisbee team, a draft team called Sofa King Sweet. Sofa King has been my favourite team to date. Not because we won games, not because we clicked on the field, but rather the best because we laughed a lot after the games when we went out fo dinner and drinks.
Often when we went out drinking Will would talk about politics. He was a proclaimed Libertarian (Istill have no clue what a libertarian is) and loved to get into discussions about that. He was a unique friend to me because he enlightend me to a different view of the US military and its role in the world. He was the only american I've met who was in the military; he had done tours of duty in Central America, Germany, and most recently a tour in Iraq. All of this and he hadn't even finished university yet.
Will was again on my Saturday team this past summer. One day Will, Robin, and I stuck around the field after our game drinking beers and talking. As we were wrapping up Robin turned to Will and told him that she would love to meet him in 10 years because she knew he was going to turn into one hell of an interesting guy.
He was one of the few people from frisbee that I would go out of my way to talk to at every tournament or whenever our teams were playing around the same time during the season. If you know me you know that I'm not the friendliest person in the world. If nothing else that should be a testament to how highly I thought of Will and also show what kind of a person he was. I can only hope that he is in a better place, playing ultimate in his custom purple and gold Nike cleats with his name stiched on them.
Will passed away last Sunday in a car accident while back home in Florida and he will be missed.
