Internal Debate

So, I'm having this internal debate that I need a little help with. Tonight the HR team (yes, I work in HR at my company) went out for drinks and dinner. It was an informal thing that the new VP organized to get to know us better. Anyway, at the begining of the night I found myself sitting next to this new girl that's recently joined our small team of 11.

So I'd kind of picked up hints that she's flirting with me over the past few weeks. Nothing obvious, just that she'd opened up to me about her recreational mind enhancing substace usage, and a few comments sprinkled about here and there.

Well tonight she was a little more physical than I was expecting. When we were all laughing at some joke someone had cracked I found that she would constantly put her hand on my lap. No big deal, but it would slowly creep higher and higher up along my thigh. There was nothing x-rated going on, but there was enough to cause me to sit up a little straighter. Anyhow, the debate going on in my head right now is whether I should make a move on her or not.

In the past I've passed up proposals from people I work with quite closely. The more memorable one was in Ireland during the holiday party I organized. An admin from HR was blatantly hitting on me at the party I helped organize. I politely turned her down and then avoided her for the rest of the night. I did that for 2 reasons. 1 I was in a semi-relationship that wasn't working out because of the distance. 2 because I had set policy, or rather guidelines, that I wasn't going to engage in extra-curriculars with a co-worker.

Back in 2004 I was good about keeping to my guidelines. Now that seems like a distant memory that doesn't apply to today's reality.

My internal debate is whether I should pursue something (purely physical because I'm not interested in the chick) with the girl at work. Or should I stick to my original policy of not dating (ie: sleeping w/) anyone I work with?

Any feedback or suggestions are much appreciated.

Don't do anything you will regret later unless you are definatly planning on quiting your job. I will go on but I'd rather save the rest of my opinion for NYC.
